Brittany Allen Project Runway designs (season 20), from worst to best

Jul 12, 2023Jul 12, 2023

Back in season 18 of “Project Runway,” Brittany Allen was the recipient of the first-ever Siriano Save: she struggled with menswear one week and was drummed out by the judges, but Christian Siriano decided to keep her in the competition. She would be sent home for good a few weeks later in the avant garde challenge, but this year “Runway” brought Allen back to compete in the special season 20 “All-Stars” edition of the show, where she made it farther than she had before. But have her designs improved since she was last in the competition? We’ve ranked her season 20 looks below from worst to best. Scroll through all of them and let us know if you agree with our assessments.

Since she was last on “Project Runway” Allen experienced a health emergency that sparked her interest in fitness, leading her to pivot in her design career as well as in her life. Now with a sportier aesthetic, she has impressed the judges with her signature uses of hardware and top-stitching. Which is not to say she hasn’t struggled along the way. She got off to a strong start with a safe score in “Project Redemption” and then a high score in “Toying with Fashion,” but then she came close to elimination in “Coronation Day” when she and her teammate Anna Zhou had to create a look fit for a royal ball. And she was at the bottom again in “Like Totally ’90s” when her homage to that decade’s fashion looked more like a cheap costume.

But those were both team challenges. When she wasn’t collaborating with other designers she mostly excelled, even in “Below Decked Out” and “Let Me See Your Peacock!” in which she had to create menswear looks despite menswear being her downfall in her original season. Perhaps some designers are better off as lone wolves of fashion.
